The government of Russia has increased its 2009 federal budget by US $1.9 billion over the previously planned level for the Ministry of Agriculture for a total of $5.3 billion, reports US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Service. Almost 68% will go for direct and interest rate support subsidies to agricultural producers.

The government also increased money for agricultural education, professional training, and applied research by $168 million to $639 million.
